The Jadrolinija car ferry from Makarska to Sumartin is the handy way onto the east side of Brač, especially if you're coming up the coast from the south. It takes cars and foot passengers alike. Good to know before you go
There's just one ferry on this route: the Jadrolinija car ferry, which takes cars as well as foot passengers. The crossing takes about 50 minutes. From Makarska it sails 2 to 7 times a day, depending on the season. The first one leaves at 06:30 and the last at 21:00.
Outside summer there are only a few sailings a day, and on Sundays and public holidays the times are different. Pick a date at the top of the page and you'll see exactly which ferries are running that day.
Our tips for the ferry
This is the main way onto Brač from the Makarska Riviera, and foot passengers are welcome on board too.
It's one of the few Jadrolinija routes where you can book a ticket for a specific departure for your car, and in summer we'd do it. Without a booking it's first come, first served, so with a car be at the port at least 30 to 45 minutes before departure.
You'll park your car inside the ferry, and you need both a car ticket and a passenger ticket for yourself. Travelling with family or friends? Our tip: send them on as foot passengers with their own tickets. They can board first, grab the best seats and wait for you on the ferry; they don't have to sit in the car with you.
It's a big ferry, with lots of room inside and on the outside deck, air conditioning, vending machines and a café bar where you can also get a small snack.

How much are the ferry tickets to Sumartin?
Where to buy: every company sells tickets online. The "Buy ticket" button next to each departure takes you straight to the right shop.
Jadrolinija: You can also buy them in person in Makarska, at the Jadrolinija ticket office on Obala kralja Tomislava 15 (open from an hour before each departure), and in Sumartin, at the Jadrolinija ticket office at the port (Porat 1) (open from an hour before each departure). If the ticket office is closed, you can buy your ticket on board.
Prices change with the season: tickets cost more in the main season than the rest of the year (you'll find the dates in the price table below). An adult pays €4.10 to €6.40 and a normal car €18.70 to €27.00, depending on the date. The departure list shows the adult price for the day you pick.
With a car: the car ticket doesn't include the driver, so everyone in the car needs a passenger ticket too.
Good to know: a regular Jadrolinija ticket is valid for any sailing on the date you chose. On this route you can also book a ticket for a specific departure.
