Good to know before you go

There are three catamarans between Split and Bol, and all of them are for foot passengers only.

Jadrolinija runs the one you can count on all year. It also calls at Jelsa on Hvar, and leaves Split once a day. An adult ticket costs €6.40 to €10.00, a little more in summer.

In late summer, from 17 August to 20 September, Jadrolinija adds a second catamaran that carries on to Hvar and Vis. A ticket to Bol on that one costs €23.00.

Krilo Shipping Company sails from 15 May to 30 September, 1 to 2 times a day from Split, and an adult ticket costs €25.00.

The timetables change through the year, so pick your date at the top of the page and you'll see exactly which ferries are running that day.

Our tips for the catamaran

Split – Bol is one of the most popular catamaran routes in Croatia, together with Split – Hvar, and in high season the catamarans fill up. We'd buy tickets a few days ahead.

Split's ferry port gets very crowded in summer, and the catamarans don't always leave from the same berth. Check the berth next to your departure above, on the day you travel.

If you'd like a window seat with a view, be at the port a bit before the 15 minutes the companies ask for.

Most catamarans have no outside seating, because they're fast and it gets very windy. One of the Krilo Shipping Company catamarans does have an outside area, and the crew opens it once it's safe. The views from there are even better.

Just before you arrive in Bol, look out for Zlatni rat, the most famous beach in Croatia.

In the main season there are catamarans in the morning, around midday and in the afternoon, so you can plan your trip the way you like. Pick your date above to see the exact times.

The crossing isn't long, but we usually bring something to eat and drink. On board it costs more than on land.

There's no car ferry to Bol. If you're bringing a car, or would rather not take the catamaran, take the car ferry from Split to Supetar (Split → Supetar) and go on to Bol by car, bus or taxi. Bol is on the other side of the island, though, so a taxi won't be cheap. Going back, it's the same the other way round (Supetar → Split).

As for the boats, Jadrolinija (line 9603) usually sends the catamaran Karolina (316 passengers) or Mila; Jadrolinija (line 659) usually sends the catamaran Judita (316 passengers); Krilo Shipping Company usually sends the catamaran KSC Jaffa (around 250 passengers) or KSC Naranča (around 250 passengers). The companies swap boats from time to time, so yours may be a different one.

For the best views, sit on the left side, looking towards the front of the catamaran. For most of the way you'll have Brač's coast on that side.

There are no seat reservations on the catamarans: you sit wherever you like, first come, first served. All of them have air conditioning.

Bags are stowed one by one as people board, so the first ones in end up behind everyone else's. If you board last, yours will be the easiest to get to when you arrive.
